Case StudyAutoCAD Export

One reliable Smallworld export behind every AutoCAD construction plan

Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (CKW) · Central Switzerland

Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (CKW)

Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (CKW) needs a range of specialized plans for its construction projects: plans for internal credit approval, network construction submissions to Switzerland's Federal Inspectorate for Heavy Current Installations (ESTI), situation plans, and contract plans.

Each of these plans is drawn in AutoCAD — and each one starts from the same requirement: an accurate, up-to-date base plan of the existing network.

Challenge
Producing consistent, high-quality AutoCAD plans for construction credit approvals, regulatory submissions, and contracts — without redrawing the network from scratch each time.
Solution
X-Translator exporting a Smallworld project plan directly into AutoCAD as a reliable base template.
Results
An efficient, consistent foundation for every network construction plan CKW needs to produce.

01Challenge

All of these plan types follow a similar workflow, and each depends on the same first step: exporting an accurate project plan from CKW's Smallworld system as a starting point. Without a reliable export, every one of these plans would need to be redrawn from scratch.

03Solution

From Smallworld export to AutoCAD template

CKW generates its base plan from Smallworld using the “Projektplan LV95” export, referencing Switzerland's LV95 coordinate system. Using SEPM's X-Translator, this export is converted in AutoCAD — with a defined set of tools — into a definitive template.

The Smallworld network export as it first appears in AutoCAD, immediately after export.
The same network after conversion into CKW's definitive AutoCAD template — ready to serve as the base for construction plans.

One template, every construction plan

That template then becomes the foundation for drawing the actual construction project plans:

  • Plans for internal credit approval
  • Network construction submissions to ESTI
  • Situation plans
  • Contract plans

The result: CKW can draw its various network construction plans in AutoCAD efficiently and with consistently high quality, because every plan starts from the same reliable, up-to-date export — rather than being redrawn by hand each time.

An example network plan (Vorlageplan) built from this template, used for CKW's construction projects.
An example credit-approval plan (Kreditplan) drawn on the same base — with existing and new routes, lines to be dismantled, and water protection zones.

04Results

  1. 01

A reliable, up-to-date base plan for every construction project, exported directly from Smallworld

  2. 02

One consistent workflow for credit-approval plans, ESTI regulatory submissions, situation plans, and contract plans

  3. 03

Higher efficiency and consistent quality across every AutoCAD plan CKW produces

  4. 04

No redrawing the network from scratch for each new plan type
