Why X-Symbols

Give your QGIS maps more character.

SEPM X-Symbols brings reusable SVG symbol families to QGIS — from simple shapes and partial fills to arrows, markers and selected utility symbols. Choose the symbols and colours that fit your map.

  1. 01

    Reusable SVG symbol families

Related symbols built on shared geometry, ready to reuse across projects.

  2. 02

    Configurable QGIS colours

Style fill and outline in QGIS — no colour-specific copies to maintain.

  3. 03

    Generic and utility-oriented designs

From basic geometry and references to charging, cables and manholes.

The collection

Reusable symbols. More expressive QGIS maps.

SEPM X-Symbols is a growing collection of clean, reusable SVG symbol families for QGIS. From basic geometry and partial fills to arrows, flags and selected infrastructure symbols, X-Symbols gives you more options for building a consistent and expressive map style.

Symbol families

More than a collection of individual icons

X-Symbols is built around related symbol families. Start with a simple shape and choose the variation that fits your map — outline or filled, single or concentric, partially filled, paired, framed or combined with directional and reference elements.

Instead of redrawing recurring GIS and CAD motifs for every project, you can reuse an existing symbol and adapt its appearance in QGIS.

Built for QGIS styling

One symbol. Your map’s colours.

Many X-Symbols expose QGIS fill and outline colour parameters. This means the same SVG can work with different map palettes without maintaining separate colour-specific files.

Transparent regions stay transparent, while fill and outline can be styled independently where the symbol supports both.

A growing toolkit

A growing toolkit of symbol families

Three groups cover everyday cartographic needs — and the collection keeps growing.

  • 01

    Shapes & compositions

Basic shapes, concentric forms, partial fills, paired shapes and flags.

  • 02

    Direction & reference

Arrows, crosshairs, targets, rings and radial markers.

  • 03

    Utility & infrastructure

Selected symbols for charging, batteries, cable accessories, manholes, cabinets and other technical map features.

Design specifications

Precise geometry. Predictable in QGIS.

Every symbol follows the same construction rules, so families stay consistent on the map and behave the same way in QGIS.

  • 01

    Canonical SVG geometry

Each symbol is drawn once as clean vector geometry and shared across the SEPM Core, Generic and thematic libraries.

  • 02

    Fill and outline parameters

Fill colours the functional accents, outline colours structure and borders. Transparent regions are never painted.

  • 03

    Defined anchor points

Every symbol has a defined anchor. Directional symbols anchor at the tip, so QGIS rotates them around the insertion point.

  • 04

    Crisp at every size

Geometry is checked at 24, 32, 48 and 96 px, so symbols stay legible from overview maps to detailed plans.

  • 05

    Consistent naming

Descriptive, prefixed identifiers such as xs_arrow_curved_left or xs_manhole_round keep libraries easy to search.

  • 06

    SEPM original designs

Independent mathematical construction by SEPM. Generic cartographic motifs — not a claim of compliance with electrical or utility standards.
